Child Slavery

Crouched together, they would sit
In many a dark, smelly cellar
From early morning hours
To very late into the night
Their big, dark, frightful eyes
Never getting to see sunlight

Their little fingers never stopping
Their gaze so hollow, full of nothing
Small bodies swaying back and forth
Captured, caught, lost forever
In a world without love, without care
No future ahead, no escape, never

Just how can humanity be so cruel?
To rob these children of their dignity
The greed of humans knows no boundary
Exploiting these poor, unfortunate beings
They stop at nothing to fill their pockets
Don't they have any human feelings?

Anger, pain, helplessness is what I feel
Why, why, oh why should this happen?
Every child has rights, has dreams
Don't rob them of these simple pleasures
In this day and age, it shouldn't be
These kids are our future's treasures

Please, put a stop to wretched child slavery
Give them back their childhood dreams
Replace the anxious, fearful eyes
With sparkling diamonds of pure glee
Let them play and dance in sun and rain
Give them back their faith in humanity

Please..............

  1. Hi,
It is sheer injustice to snatch away the freedom of a child. Child slavery should be completely eradicated from the society at the earliest possible.

  2. I agree with you completely. If only everyone would think the same. I wrote this poem after watching a documentary on TV. I can still see the pics of those poor kids with their lifeless eyes in my mind.
